Financial Understanding Programme
Local Enterprise Office Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown's Financial Understanding Programme provides access to Skilly, an online self learning platform with two modules for users from non-financial backgrounds to improve their financial literacy skills.
The two modules are designed to be engaging and relatively non-technical and are broken down as follows:
- Financial Start (for beginners)
- Financial Accelerate (to step up your skills)
After going through the exercises business owners will find themselves with a better understanding of how and why they need to understand their financial data and what it can tell them about their business. We expect users will benefit immediately from what they learn from completing the self-learning programmes.
Why should I upskill in Financial Literacy?
Financial literacy is the foundation of your relationship with money, and it is a lifelong journey of learning. You will learn how to read financial statements, improve your financial decisions, assess your profitability, know the net worth of your company, the importance of a cash flow projection and your tax obligations.
What is included in the programme and what do I need to do?
Each programme is a short series of sub-modules covering the fundamentals, including reading and videos, to learn critical skills. Skilly and the financial programmes will help you learn through self-reflection.
Start by a self-assessment of your current skill level (Step 1) and move on to the skill practice programme (Step 2). At the end of the sub-module, there are practical activities to engage in and record your responses.
As part of the programme a Financial Specialist (DLR LEO Mentor) will review your answers and feedback. Three hours of individual one-to-one mentoring is also included and you can reach out to your mentor at any stage if there are any aspects of the programme that you need support in.
When can I do it/how long does it take?
Skilly is for self-learners who are busy but want to learn new skills. You get access to the programme when you register and you can complete it in your own time, at your own pace. Allow 8-10 hours to complete each module over 2-3 weeks.
How much does it costs?
Access to the Financial Understanding Programme Online Platform and three hours mentoring support is included and there is is no charge to LEO DLR clients.
